Deadgood have beaten off stiff competition to win the Best Brand at Clerkenwell 2013 on the S/S/A/W Design Billboard. Hundreds of design devotees cast their vote and positions were closely contested throughout the competition. At 6pm today voting closed and the winner was announced.

Clerkenwell Design Week is the UK’s leading independent design festival, one of the most fresh design events on the international design calendar. To win the No.1 position is no mean feat considering the wealth of talent on display. It is a massive achievement for Deadgood so congratulations to the whole team, to all the nominees and the final TOP 20 due to be featured in ISSUE 2 of S/S/A/W Collections.

Lastly folk’s the next show to feature on S/S/A/W Design Billboard will be the London Design Festival 2013. Thanks to all who voted your passion for design has not gone unnoticed.

Every now and again I discover an item of clothing destined for my wardrobe and to be passed on down the generation as a family heirloom to my daughters. I love all of Valentino’s lace dresses so it would be difficult to select one from the collection. The structured lace look is feminine yet modern and combines sheer with opaque.

Take the trend off the catwalk into the home and use sparingly to create a subtle statement with a piece of fine lace.

The lived in style is a feasible look most design fans could easily achieve. What makes this trend covetable is the mix of surfaces combined together. Current blond furniture blends comfortably against the dark aged wood. Accessories look fresh randomly attached as opposed to the trend for measured and strategically placed objects currently so prevalent in the styling world. It is a relaxed sought after lifestyle that many folk aspire to. Logs, fires, enamelware are pivotal in the creation of the mood to blend and soften the appearance of hard surfaces such as concrete and marble. Add shots of bright to highlight the palette.

Akita Desk Range, by Tatsuya Akita for Plant & Moss

Plant & Moss discovered Tatsuya Akita at New Designers 2011 and immediately fell in love with the contrasting desk set and his Earthen Lamps, so much so that they decided to work with him to take his prototype designs and turn them into a reality. The intention of the designer was to exploit material characteristics: Concrete has weight, durability and a raw feel, the spun metal and turned wood relate to the function of the objects and result in a pure form. The range includes a pen stand, a tape dispenser and a desk lamp and is No. 1: of ten products (in no particular order) that have caught my eye from the exhibitor list at 100% Design.
